With work from home extended until July 2021 for my company, I invited Aerin Lauder of the eponymous brand Aerin to share her advice on how to decorate interiors and spaces during a time when many of us have had to adjust to makeshift offices or convert dining room tables into shared workspaces. The epitome of elegance and grace, Aerin also shared stories about her grandmother, the beauty pioneer Esteé Lauder, who lived the American dream by building up one of the world’s largest beauty empires. The Estée Lauder company now consists of many beauty counter favorites such as Clinique, Bobbi Brown, La Mer and Origins.
Speaking to Aerin reminded me that even during a pandemic and an unraveling of the social fabric that holds many of our lives together, there is always room for us to find beauty and comfort – and also to create it – in order to manage the uncertainty that may dwell in our present. If we think of these times as an opportunity to press pause and reset on a life that was most likely too fast but not necessarily too full, perhaps we will look back upon some of these times as precious moments where we could sit with our thoughts and our people and really get to know them on a more intimate level. As Aerin shared, “Anything can be beautiful, if only you put the time into it!”
